Free diabetes supplies, samples, and services in 2026: What’s teal and how to get It

Short answer: People with diabetes can get several things free or cheap in 2026: glucose meters through manufacturer vouchers (Accu-Chek and Contour Next are the most consistent), a first free CGM sensor from Dexcom (new G7 users, prescription required) or an Abbott FreeStyle Libre sample, insulin for $35 a month through Sanofi, Lilly, and Novo Nordisk programs, and free prevention classes through Medicare or the CDC. No legitimate caller offers “free” supplies in exchange for your Medicare number.

Freebies for people with diabetesLast verified: October 11, 2026. Sources checked: Dexcom’s free trial page, Sanofi’s announcement of its $35 insulin program for 2026, Medicare.gov and CDC pages on the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program, the HHS Office of Inspector General fraud alert for people with diabetes, the American Diabetes Association site, GoodRx’s glucose meter guide, and Abbott’s sample terms as quoted by Slickdeals.

Living with diabetes costs money every month, and a lot of help goes unused because it’s scattered across company websites. This guide puts the real, current options in one place. It’s general information, not medical advice. Talk to your care team before changing your supplies, devices, or insulin.

Can you get a free glucose meter?

Often, yes. Meter makers give them away because they make their money on test strips.

  • Accu-Chek offers a voucher for a free Guide Me meter.
  • Contour Next has offered a coupon for a free Contour Next Gen meter. Some versions are limited to privately insured patients, and some require a prescription.
  • OneTouch and FreeStyle have run free meter promotions that came and went. Check their sites for what’s live today.
  • Your insurer or pharmacy plan may run its own free meter program for members, usually limited to one meter every few years.

Ask your prescriber which meter fits your strips and plan before you pick one.

Can you get a free CGM sample?

Two makers offer a first sensor free, with a prescription:

  • Dexcom offers a free first Dexcom G7 sensor to new users. Adults get the G7 15 Day, and users under 18 get the G7. You can take a voucher to a local pharmacy, or Dexcom can request the prescription for you and mail the sensor. Dexcom says it may change or end the offer at any time.
  • Abbott FreeStyle Libre offers one Libre 2 Plus or Libre 3 Plus sensor as a sample at $0 copay, according to Abbott’s sample terms. It’s one sample per person, and the sample card isn’t health insurance.

A free sample is a trial, not ongoing coverage. Ask your care team and insurer what the next sensor will cost.

How can you get insulin for $35 a month?

Three manufacturers run $35 programs:

  • Sanofi: Starting January 1, 2026, its Insulins Valyou Savings Program covers a 30-day supply of any combination of Sanofi insulins for $35 for anyone with a valid prescription, regardless of income or insurance.
  • Lilly: The Lilly Insulin Value Program caps Lilly insulins at $35 a month for people with commercial insurance or no insurance.
  • Novo Nordisk: MyInsulinRx offers a $35 option for eligible patients. Novo human insulin is also available at Walmart for about $25 a vial.

If you’re on Medicare, Part D plans cap covered insulin at $35 for a month’s supply. Many states also cap insulin copays for state-regulated plans, and the caps differ by state.

What if you can’t afford insulin right now?

Don’t ration it. Tell your prescriber and pharmacist today. Several programs exist for urgent need:

  • Novo Nordisk has an Immediate Supply program that gives eligible people at risk of rationing a one-time, free, short-term supply.
  • Sanofi offers a free, one-time 30-day supply for qualifying people with an urgent need, through its Temporary Access Program.
  • Patient assistance programs at Novo Nordisk and Sanofi can provide free medication to people who qualify.
  • Community health centers often charge on a sliding scale, and 211 can point you to local help. See our 211 guide.

In a medical emergency, call 911.

Are there free classes and tools?

  • Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP). Part B covers it at no cost if you qualify: you have prediabetes confirmed by a blood test in the past year, a BMI of 25 or higher (23 or higher if you identify as Asian), and no history of type 1 or type 2 diabetes. It’s a year-long program with sessions in person, by distance learning, or online at your own pace.
  • CDC National Diabetes Prevention Program. If you don’t have Medicare, you may qualify for the same lifestyle program, and some insurers and employers cover it.
  • American Diabetes Association. Its Diabetes Food Hub gives you free recipes and meal-planning tools with a free account, its 60-second Type 2 Risk Test is free, and its helpline is 1-800-DIABETES (800-342-2383).

CDC-cited research says structured programs can cut the risk of type 2 diabetes by about 58% overall and 71% for adults 60 and older.

How do you spot a “free diabetes supplies” scam?

The HHS Office of Inspector General has warned people with diabetes about calls offering “free” glucose meters, test strips, or lancets in exchange for your Medicare number. The call is a scam. The items are billed to Medicare, and Medicare does not make calls offering supplies. Medicare also has rules protecting you from unsolicited calls from suppliers.

  • Never give your Medicare number to a caller you didn’t contact.
  • Refuse or return items you didn’t order. Keep a record of the sender and the date.
  • Check your Medicare Summary Notice for supplies billed more than once.
  • Report it to the OIG at 1-800-HHS-TIPS, or call 1-800-MEDICARE.

A short checklist

  1. Ask your prescriber which meter, sensor, or insulin fits you before you claim anything.
  2. Compare the $35 program with your insurance copay, and choose the lower one each month.
  3. Check eligibility for the prevention program if you have prediabetes.
  4. Save the offer terms. Free trials and vouchers often expire.
  5. Skip any unsolicited call offering free supplies.
